Issue 1 of the Great British Locomotives Collection as arrived at the newsagents, published by Amermedia.

Each issue arrives with a 4mm scale, OO gauge, static model, the first one being the famous A4 "Mallard". There is a 16 page magazine giving a history of the engine complete with a nice double-page spread painting showing the side view and liveries.

The model is screwed to a length of plastic track moulded to a plinth. Undoing the screws seperates the model into several parts. People have been experimenting with using Bachmann mechanisms to motorise it. The hollow, plastic body has separate handrails fitted on both loco and tender. Boiler pipework is also an applied part.

Livery is LNER blue. On my model the white lining is a bit wobbly around the front end but commendably thin.

Issue 1 costs £2.99, Issue 2 with an LMS Streamlined Duchess £5.99. Form issue 3, Flying Scotsman, reaches the normal price of £8.99. Publication will be fortnightly.
