This is a continuation of the excellent series of books on Irish railways originally started by the Midland Press before it was taken over by Ian Allan Publishing. This volume covers an interesting period in Irish railway history as the Great Southern Railway was formed after the division of Ireland and had the task of uniting the various war-torn networks at a time when little money was available. It was Ireland's version of the Grouping but occurred two years after that in Britain. It continued in this role until 1945 when it became part of CIE. This excellent series of books is a 'must' for anyone interested in Irish railways and each contains a rich selection of well captioned black and white photographs which graphically illustrate the atmosphere of these bygone railways.
