Hornby SR 'Terrier' 0-6-0T R30220-6-0T Terrier .JPG (60112 bytes)

Stroudley’s London Brighton & South Coast Railway 'Terrier' A1 tank engines, which totalled 50 in number, date from 1872 and were redeveloped as an A1X by Marsh in 1911. The A1X tank engine is believed to be the oldest class of steam locomotive still in regular service on preserved lines. If there was a hall of fame for the best designs over the years, the Terrier would be one of the tank engines included. Despite its age, it survived well into BR years and 10 made it into preservation. Not a bad record. =

The model was designed and tooled by Dapol and first released in 1989. It was a good choice of subject as the little tanks had long been favourites with British enthusiasts. The model joined the Hornby fleet in 1998 and was one of the first of the former Dapol models to be put into production, having first received ‘the Hornby touch’ to sort out any problems. The result is a very attractive model which, in Hornby's ownership, has seen over 20 versions. Hornby have also offered it in several interesting liveries. The model under review is Southern Railway No.2662 in olive green and this is the sixth to have been produced by Hornby in a Southern livery.
