The LMS ventilated vans had corrugated steel end walls, slightly flatter roofs and a single sliding door on both sides. Orders for 1,300 plywood-sided and 1,000 planked vans were placed immediately after Nationalisation and these carried a B prefix to the number.
The doors on the model are fixed shut as they are part of the single moulding. The original model appeared in Palitoy's Mainline Railways range in 1975 and the first Bachmann models from the same tooling arrived in 1992. This model was replaced by the current one in 2001. The latest version is a former LMS wagon in early BR brown and numbered M509509.
