Hornby TTA/TUA 'Monobloc' Tank Wagon
The Hornby 'Monobloc' tank wagon seems to go on for ever and with ever more interesting
and colourful liveries. It first appeared in 1973 as one of the first new wagons produced
under the Hornby Railways brand. Compared with other wagons in the range at that time it
was an attractive addition. Today, it looks rather dated but it is still in production
after nearly 40 years and more than 50 versions of it. Three of these have recently been
released and are:
R6547 'Hornby 2011' - this is the annual limited edition which started in 1992 with a different wagon model chosen each year to carry the year and the Hornby logo. Like this one, most of them have been in a matching red.
R6541 'Total' PR58244 - The only 'Monobloc' tank wagon previously produced by Hornby
carrying the Total brand name was a fictitious one in the RailRoad range. Here we have a
tanker owned by Caib carrying the Total brand logo. It also has the petroleum symbol used
during the Railfreight Divisions period.
R6540 'NACCO'/'Carless Solvents Ltd' NACO74007 - The actual tanker was built in 1981 by CFPM and was one of a batch of 30 produced for CSL. After Carless traffic ceased, the fleet was taken over by NACCO. The model represents one of these, before the Carless branding was removed.
