Hornby BRc Thompson L1 2-6-4T R3007
Following the horrors of the Sevenoaks derailment in 1927, railway companies, with the exception of the LMS, had avoided building 2-6-4Ts. Gresley, instead, had preferred the 2-6-2 V1/V3 tanks but Thompson, with an eye on LMS successes under Fowler, Stanier and Fairburn, chose a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement for his standard large tank. The first one emerged from the Doncaster works in May 1945 and eventually 100 of them were built, all but one by British Railways. Only four ever carried an LNER number. Sadly none was preserved.
The latest model from Hornby is numbered 67759 and is in BR lined black with late decals. This is the fifth version of the model to be produced by Hornby and the first one to be given a weathered finish.
