Hornby KFA Standard Container Flat
The fourth and final new wagon from Hornby this year is an accurate model of a
container wagon. The first modern container wagon by the company was released in 1967 as a
Tri-ang Hornby model. This has recouped the development cost many times over, allowing its
20ft and 30ft containers to be produced in umpteen liveries. However, the container flat
model was a very bland vehicle which depended on the colourful containers to give it
character.
Now Hornby have produced a detailed model, as a replacement, and this has a highly
detailed and well printed KFA flat wagon which carries, in each case, a 20ft and a 40ft
container - all from fresh tooling. The under-floor detail is amazing and naturally each
wagon is fitted with narrow tension-lock couplings in NEM sockets. All are painted in
Tiphook blue livery and the three recently released are:
R6484 - wagon number TIPH.93478 with a 20ft white 'Stolt' tank in a black frame (SNTU400404[4]) and 40ft 'Maersk Sealand' container in pale grey (MSKU618758[0]).
R6485 - wagon number TIPH.93482 with a 20ft NOL container in grey (NOSU228694[0]) and 40ft 'P&O' container in blue (OCL152154[2]).
R6536 - wagon number TIPH.93485 with a 20ft grey 'Hoyer' tank in a red frame (HOYU241732[9]) and a 40ft Lys-line container in blue (LYSU500682[4]).
