Hornby Virgin Charter Relief Train Pack R2955Class 90 EWS 90029.JPG (49793 bytes)

In order to provide passenger backup, in case of failures in their Voyager or Pendolino fleets, Virgin Trains invested in a rake of M3 coaches and DVT stock. In the event of breakdowns or the need for an extra service, the Virgin Charter Relief Train could be called on to provide the backup support required.

DVT Virgin Charter Relief.JPG (35571 bytes)The Hornby model of the train comes in two separate packs. One contains three Mk3 coaches in current Virgin Trains livery and the other pack, as seen here, contains a Class 90 locomotive and the new Hornby model of a Mk3 DVT in Virgin livery. The latter was introduced in 2010 and already has been modelled in six different liveries. The Class 90 locomotive is in EWS maroon and yellow livery as 90029 The Institution of Civil Engineers and is the model introduced by Hornby in 1988. 34 versions of the model have been produced so far.
