Hornby LMS Black 'Duchess' R3014
The first of the retooled Hornby 'Duchesses', back in 2002, was Duchess of Rutland and, since then, Hornby have produced 22 versions of this highly detailed model of the non-streamlined 'Princess Coronation' Class. The model back then had been produced from completely new tooling and nothing had been spared to get the detail right. It had arrived much later than scheduled because the cab roof profile was not right and the body moulding tool had to be revised.
The motor was now in the locomotive rather than the tender and it now had a highly detailed cab interior. The characteristic sand boxes, the mechanical lubricators, the feed pipe from the injector and the exhaust pipe from the ejector, are all there. The smokebox door has a handrail and lamp bracket and the door handles are also separately attached. The detail at the rear of the tender is another high point.
The latest model is No.6233 Duchess of Sutherland in LMS post-war black livery with crimson and straw lining.
