Hornby 'Rare Bird' Train Pack H Rare Bird Train Pack.jpg (50923 bytes)

This is the last of the three train sets based on paintings by Barry J Freeman which were planned for last year. A further two are to be released later this year to bring the total to five.

The pack contains the current super-detailed Class A4 model as No.60024 Kingfisher, in BRb Express Blue, with 3 teak Gresley coaches: E12350 (all-3rd), E12351 (all-3rd) and E10104 (brake 3rd). It also contasins a picture of the Barry J Freeman painting on which the pack is based. It is a limited edition pack of 1000 (R2906) and comes with an individually numbered certificate. Besides the infrequent use of the BR blue livery on the model, the train pack is special because this is the first time that any of the highly detailed Gresley coaches has been released in a 'teak' finish but with a BR coach number instead of the original LNER one. This arrangement existed soon after Nationalisation and before the coaches could be painted in crimson and cream.

It shows Kingfisher with her train pulling into Peterborough Station on a wet day, probably in 1950. Freeman said that he was inspired by the sheer elegance and latent power that emanates from the dynamic design of Gresley's A4.
