Hornby 21T Steel Mineral
Hornby have tooling for two large steel mineral wagons - the Hornby Railways one of 1972, now used in the RailRoad series, and the former Airfix wagon of 1979. This black model , under review, is from the latter tooling and carries the name 'Consolidated Fisheries Limited' and the number 600 (R6528).
The GWR and LNER both built 20 or 21 ton steel mineral wagons in quantity but most were built by British Railways throughout the 1950s. The work was done at Shildon, Ashford and Derby but also contracted to outside companies such as Charles Roberts and Metro Cammell. The model is based on a pre-nationalisation design.
