Bachmann Class 20 B Class 20 BRe blue W 20128.jpg (52786 bytes)

This is an English Electric designed freight loco of 1957, the first of 20 being built at their Vulcan Foundry works. Other batches followed until the final member of the class was delivered in 1968. In all, 228 eventually arrived and were allocated to the Eastern, London Midland and Scottish Regions. It was now the standard BR Type 1 diesel and all the other pilot scheme Type 1s were withdrawn.

The locomotives passed from BR green to BR blue and then to Railfreight and private operator liveries. They were often seen operating in pairs, joined nose to nose so that their cabs were at the outer ends. This allowed them to drive the pair from either end and thus overcame the visual obstruction created by the long bonnet.

The model is 'DCC ready' and has a 21-pin socket fitted. It has NEM pockets and wire sand pipes. Like the real locomotives, this model has code discs at either end. In 2005, Bachmann improved windscreen profiles and enhanced radiator grills. The model (32-036) is in a weathered BR blue and is numbered 20128.
