These were 7-plank wagons with two extra rails fitted on top. Coke, being a lot lighter than coal, could be carried in greater volume and so the height of wagons was increased by the addition of extra planks, generally with small gaps between them. Our examples are the coke wagons made from the new Blue Riband tooling, first used in 1998. As with the 7-plank coal wagon, privately owned coke wagons were nationalised and repainted in grey with a number prefixed with a 'P'. However, our two examples here are both in private owner liveries, these being 'Cory Brothers & Co.'. No.9644 (37-185) and 'Exeter Gas Co.' No.5 (37-186).
