Hornby BR Class 28xx
R2917The first model of the GWR Class 28xx was released in 1991 and was able to use chassis parts that had been developed for the LMS Class 8F of three years earlier. It proved a popular model among GWR fans and its glowing firebox and spoke unit gave it wider appeal. Since 2000, Hornby have been gradually upgrading their earlier locomotives, while introducing new subjects. With the attention on the GWR in 2009 and 2010, the Class 28xx was an obvious choice for replacement with a super-detail model. This involved complete retooling and the opportunity was taken to produce a suite of tools that would allow the production of a number of design variations or later modifications to members of the class, This also allowed for the modelling of the similar Class 38xx.
The new model was released in 2010 and already there have been several versions of it. The current model is 2810 in BR black with late BR decals on the tender. The detail is amazing and noticeably includes the red reversing rod and the inside of the frame painted red.
