Bachmann Limpet
38-087These are ballast wagons that were originally high sided open wagons built onto the chassis of redundant air-braked tank wagons, with roller bearings. They were later modified into 'Limpets' by introducing cut-outs high in the centre two panels of the sides, thus limiting the loads they could carry - ballast being heavy.
The model here was one allocated to Loadhaul when the wagon fleet was split into three, prior to the businesses being offered out to tender. The striking black and orange livery was applied to many wagons by Loadhaul and the livery survived long after the three freight companies had been transferred to EWS.
