Bachmann 8-plank Fixed-end Wagon 37-158AB 8-plk BR grey.JPG (44247 bytes)

In order to carry greater loads, some companies ordered 8-plank wagons instead of 7-planks for coal transportation. These, however, were far less common.

There was no Mainline equivalent tooling to use and so the 8-plank was not added to the Bachmann range until it launched its Blue Riband range in 1998. Bachmann produced two versions, those with end doors for end tipping and those with fixed ends for conventional emptying by hand. The model illustrated here is of the fixed end type and is an example of a private owner wagon that was pooled by the Ministry of Transport during the Second World War and transferred into British Railways ownership in 1948. It is in BR grey and numbered P308328.
