Like the LNER steel open wagons, these LNER vans were developed and released in 2010 and are of three different types. E222334 (38-386) is a fruit van modelled in late BR brown livery, 236824 (38-375) is a ventilated van in LNER brown and E211308 (38-380) is another 12 ton ventilated van, but in early BR brown.

The models utilise a highly-detailed eight-clasp brake shoes chassis, shared by the steel open wagons, and typical of van construction favoured by the LNER. They also had sliding doors. For some time fruit vans on the LNER retained timber ends as it was easier to build in louvres in the lower half of each end to ensure good air circulation. Later LNER fruit vans were built in plywood. Besides the end louvers, E222334 has six ventilators in the roof.B LNER Van brown 236824.JPG (37744 bytes)

LNER standard ventilated vans, for general merchandise, were built on both timber and steel underframes, fitted and unfitted, with spoked or disc wheels and with timber or corrugated steel ends. They generally had a single sliding door on each side, similar to LMS ventilated vans. 236824 represents an early design with planked sides and ends. B LNER Vent Van Corr.JPG (39208 bytes)

Around 1934, the decision was made to follow LMS practice and build ventilated vans with corrugated steel ends and on steel chassis. Many vans of this type were built and included a number of design variations. Some had a hooded ventilator added in each end and some were built two inches narrower for use in restricted sidings. Some were partitioned inside for specific traffic and some found themselves on fish trains. By the outbreak of war, there were almost 3000 built and by Nationalisation, the number had risen to 7,700. E211308 represents the type with corrugated end walls.
