Graham Farish BR Mk1 Stock

The first Mk1 coaches went into service in 1951 and remained in use for over forty years. This longevity is a remarkable feat and a complement to this post-war austerity design, which could claim to be the most significant in the history of passenger carrying on Britain's railways. While of a standard design, there was a significant variety of Mk1 types to meet many different needs and several of these are represented in the Graham Farish range.

Bachmann inherited five types - SK, BCK, RMB, BG as well as a GUV. They early on carried out improvements to them and added an SO, FK, BSK, CK, RU and RFO. However, improving existing models is not the same as starting from scratch and with the company's drive for ever increasing excellence in its models the time came to retool the BR Mk1 range and the first of these has now arrived. They are superbly finished with wire electricity conduits, changeable couplings, interior units and fine under-floor detail. The review samples we have received are 374-010 SO 2nd open in crimson and cream livery as M3741, 374-259 CK composite in green as S15904, 374-187 BSK brake 2nd in maroon as M34140 and 374-062 SK all-2nd in blue and grey and numbered SC18251. Each comes with a pack of bufferbeam cables and imitation screw couplings for the purchaser to fit.
