Bachmann MBA 'Megabox'
Having taken over most of the freight operation in Britain in the mid 1990s, EWS started replacing former BR wagons with high volume ones that followed US thinking. In 1998, they ordered 300 of these MBAs from Thrall Europa at York. They came in two forms as they run in sets of five, made up of 'outers' with buffers and 'inners' without. Within the sets, the wagons are linked with buckeye couplings. They have been used to carry scrap, timber, stone and coal.
Based on the original Thrall works drawings, the body and underframe are highly detailed. The model has many separately fitted components. Knuckle couplers are included in the box. The recently released model illustrated here is 38-240 in EWS and numbered 500028.
