Bachmann GWR Ventilated Fruit VanB 12T Ventilated Fruit Van WR.JPG (26301 bytes)

This model is based on the GWR 'Goods Fruit A', 200 of which were built in 1938 to design Y8. Despite their name, they were also used for vegetable traffic and could be used for general merchandise traffic. They were vacuum braked and carried the XP branding for use in fast trains. A further 100 wagons were built to the Y8 design by British Railways in 1949 and 1950 at Swindon. Early in their lives they were largely used in the Vale of Evesham but later they were usually to be found in East Anglia. By the late 1960s there was not much work for them. The GWR fruit vans were numbered in a 134xxx series while the BR Swindon built versions were numbered 8752xx. A recent addition to the Bachmann fleet is 37-754B in BR brown as W134211.
