Bachmann China Clay WagonsB China Clay grey W42833 .JPG (22683 bytes)

The Bachmann model was based on real 13T china clay open wagons and the hoods are made of stitched light blue canvas and kept in shape by a removable moulded plastic frame. The wagons were of a standard GWR design dating back to 1913 and BR made batches of them every year between 1954 and 1960. Wood had to be used in the construction to avoid rust contaminating the load. B China Clay with Hood B743378 .JPG (25223 bytes)

The models correctly have an 9ft wheelbase, as a larger one would not fit the turntable at the docks where the wagons were unloaded into ships. The hoods are light blue and carry the English China Clay's logo. Two new versions of these models have recently arrived. The first of these is 33-079A in BR grey livery without a hood and numbered W42833 - hoods were a late addition. The other wagon is 33-080B in weathered BR brown. This one has a hood and is numbered B743378.
