Bachmann 2-car Class 105
The Class 105s were built in 1956 by Cravens Ltd of Sheffield, for branch line and local services. They built 402 vehicles from 1956 to 1960 and 275 of these were power cars. They were of all steel construction and the bodies were similar to Mk1 coaches, with similar windows and doors and luggage racks. The cab fronts had two large windows giving excellent forward visibility.
Originally run as 3-car units, the nineteen centre cars were all withdrawn in 1970,
leaving the class made up of 2-car units. Withdrawals started in the early 1980s and were
completed ten years later. A few made it into blue and grey livery. Only three cars
survive in preservation - a two car set (DMBS and DTCL) and a separate driving trailer car
(DTCL).
The models have directional and interior lighting and consist of DMBS and DTCL cars. Both early and late body styles have been modelled. Early versions feature large cab-front train number indicator boxes. Models of later versions show them plated over. They also show the early type of exhaust system that passed through the coach from the motor compartment to the exhaust port on the roof. Models of the later versions show the exhaust relocated on the end of the power car, rising to roof level. The model is 'DCC ready' (8-pin) and has lit destination boxes and interiors. Seen here are 31-326 in BR green as cars Nos. E51254+E56412 and 31-325 in BR blue as cars Nos. E51289+E56483.
