The J94 was one of the better looking locomotive models produced by Graham Farish. It arrived in 1986 and six versions were released. Of these, only one was in BR livery and none represented LNER ownership. Two were for the Dutch market, one military, one industrial and one in NCB livery. Since acquiring the tooling, seven more versions have been released, six in BR livery and one as an LNER locomotive. The current model is in BR plain black with late decals and numbered '68095'.
These powerful locomotives are often referred to as 'Austerity' tanks as they were designed and built in large numbers during World War 2 for the war effort. Several companies supplied them and, after the war, they were sold, most ended up on various industrial sites, including collieries. 75 were bought by the LNER, who gave them the J94 classification, and these passed to British Railways in 1948.
