Hornby Skaledale Coaling Tower R9640Coaling Tower.jpg (43530 bytes)

The Hornby coaling tower is with us and it will be interesting to see how it compares with the Bachmann and Townstreet versions. Hornby picked the LNER Immingham coaling tower to model. It comes in four parts - the tower, complete with all stairs, railings etc. ready attached, the black wagon guide at one side that looks like a prop and two small huts, one of which is the ash house. The larger of the two huts has a chimney. The model is heavy suggesting that it is a solid resin casting. The supporting columns and lower platform seems to have been cast separately and fixed later, likewise the two runs of steps. The handrails are wire and were set into the resin at the casting stage. The whole model is painted concrete grey and then 'weathered. The two huts are brick buildings with corrugated roofs.
