The Bachmann Bulleid coaches arrived in 1993. Airfix had got as far as producing the drawings and some sample models before the company went into liquidation. These would have been released in 1981, if circumstances had been different. Palitoy were about to introduce three types of Bulleid coach in 1985 but, again, closedown of production prevented this. With Bachmann, it was 'third time lucky' for the Bulleid stock. Here we have new examples of the brake and composite vehicles, both in BR coach green. The brake 2nd (34-504A) is numbered 'S3975S' and the composite (34-554A) is numbered 'S5850S'.Bulleid Semi-open Brake 3rd S3975S.jpg (36626 bytes)

Although designed by Bulleid's Southern Railway design team, prior to nationalisation of the railways, they arrived too late to run in SR livery. Instead, they started life in BR carmine and cream and, from 1956, they started to be painted green. The subsequent standard Mk1 coaches eventually made by British Railways owed much to the 'Bulleids' in design.
