While the early BR crimson and cream livery looks fine on certain coaches, such as Stanier period 3 stock and BR Mk1s, to me, it looks out of place on the Maunsell stock. This is probably a psychological thing, as those of my age grew up with the livery on Hornby Dublo Stanier and Gresley coaches and later on BR Mk1 models in the Tri-ang range. As there were no proprietary Maunsell coach models in use at that time, and following the initial Hornby released in SR lined olive green and BR plain green, the red and yellow looks garish.
