Hornby quickly cornered the market for the larger 00 express locomotives. Their first model of a 'Duchess' was released in 1977, when the company stopped production if the original Rovex 'Princess', which was well past its sell-by date. That first 'Duchess' model remained in production for 25 years before being replaced by the current model inn 2002.
This current model is part of Hornby's super-detail range and has the controversial, but visually more attractive, fixed pony truck (alternative flanged wheels are not provided with the model. A front coupling, brake rods, brake pipes and front steps are provided separately for fixing. The model has the cutaway front of the running plate and the slope on the smokebox indicating a former streamlined member of the Class.
carmine and straw lining. The nameplates are maroon with deep yellow lettering and edging, to simulate brass. The cabside numbers and tender lettering are in 1936 style.
