Hornby have so far released the two train packs R2821 and R2821X (one 'DCC ready' and the other already with a DCC decoder fitted) plus the two extra cars - MS3 and MS4. They are all in deep violet livery with pale grey doors for easy visibility for the partially sighted. They are branded 'Southeastern Highspeed' and the unit number is 395001. The motorised DPT1 power car is 39011 and the DPT2 power car, without a motor, is 39016. The pack also contains trailer cars MS1 numbered 39012 and MS2 numbered 39013. The two solo trailer cars that make up a 6-car unit are MS3 39014 (R4382) and MS4 39015 (4383).Javelin Car Southeastern 39014.JPG (35136 bytes)

These models are beautifully detailed, most impressive being the embossed strips above and below the window band and the exquisitely fine printing of data, logos, lights etc. to a standard not seen before. The pantographs and conduits on the roofs of the power cars are finely detailed although not able to pickup power - but do open up. All cars have interiors.

Hornby are working on a cheaper version of the Class 395 which will be available in low priced train sets later this year. It will have simpler detail and no interior units, the glazing being darkened to conceal this fact.Javelin Car Southeastern 39015 .JPG (35654 bytes)

Built by the Japanese company Hitachi, the Class 395 'Javelins' are high-speed commuter trains which came into service late in 2009 and are operated by Southeastern. They are based on Japan's 'A Train' technology and are designed to travel on Kent's local lines, reaching a speed of 225 km/h on the new high-speed line (CTRL) into London St Pancras International. They drastically shorten the travelling time from the Kent coast including Folkestone as well as Canterbury West. They are expected to play an important part in the 2012 London Olympics and Hornby are working on a version in London 2012 livery for release this year.
