Bachmann 14T Tank Wagon 37-68214T Tanker Crosfield Chemicals.jpg (40137 bytes)

The RCH wagon 14 ton design on 10ft wheelbase chassis was confirmed in 1917 and remained unchanged until after the Second World War. Despite their standard design, different manufacturers put their own interpretation on the specification and so many variations were once found on the railways of Britain. In the last 20 years, Bachmann have produced nine different 14T tank wagon shapes (four of them due to upgrading their basic model). Their latest release is in the livery of Crosfield Chemicals and numbered 129.

Joseph Crosfield established a soap and chemical manufacturing business in Warrington, which became the firm of Joseph Crosfield and Sons. It continued to thrive and grow after his death, producing a variety of chemicals. In 1911 it was purchased by Brunner, Mond & Company and from 1929 was a subsidiary of Unilever. In 1997 it was acquired by ICI and in 2001, Ineos Capital purchased the company. The name Crosfield was finally lost as it was renamed Ineos Silicas.
