Bachmann Class V3 31-613V3 BRc .jpg (44129 bytes)

The Classes V1, V2 and V3 were introduced by Bachmann very quickly after the launch of the Branchline range. Arriving in 1992, they were the first new locomotives not to have come from Palitoy Mainline Railways tooling. None of these classes were in Palitoy's forward plans at the time of their demise.

The model under review is the first new version for seven years. It is the V3 with a straight bunker, late BR mixed traffic lined black livery and numbered '67628'. The V1 large passenger tanks were built in the 1930s, initially for use on the widened Metropolitan lines, but before their delivery, their destination was changed to Scotland for use in NBR territory. By the late 1930s, new locomotives were deployed north of London but the final ten, built with higher pressure boilers as V3s, went to the North East. Gradually most of the V1s were rebuilt as V3s. 67628 started life in December 1934 as a V1 but was rebuilt as a V3 in January 1957. None was preserved.
