Bachmann Class 45s
A Class 46 model was amongst the first diesels in the Bachmann range. It arrived in 1994 and was produced using modified Palitoy Mainline Railways tooling which had been developed for them by Kader. As Kader owned the tooling, they later used it for their fledgeling Bachmann Branchline range.
It was replaced by new tooling in 2002 to make the Classes 44, 45 and 46. The first
models from this came in 2003, but some modellers and collectors were unhappy with the
noses of the locomotives and further work was done on the tools to improve them. These
upgraded models date from 2006.
The first 10 real 'Peaks' built were later given the Class 44. They formed part of the 1955 Modernisation Plan. By 1957, the British Railways Board had decided that they needed more of these engines, but with a slightly more powerful motor installed. 127 were ordered and were built between 1960 and 1963. Under TOPS, these became the Class 45. A further order lead to the 56 members of the Class 46.
The two models under review are both in BR green livery and are No.D55 Royal Signals (32-678DS) and No.D95 (32-679). The former is fitted with a sound chip and the nameplates are provided for the purchaser to fit. These each come in three parts. The first is an etched brass nameplate onto which the etched brass regiment badge and etched metal name board need to be attached. Illustrated instructions show the correct placing of these. Another bag contains the hoses/cables for the cab fronts.
