Bachmann Class 3F Jinty 32-230
The Jinty model arrived in the Bachmann range in 2004 and proved a popular subject. So far there have been 15 versions, of which 9 were in BR black and, of these, four have had the early BR decals like the one under review. This one carries the number '47483'. The model comes complete with nothing to attach.
The class was designed for the LMS by Henry Fowler but owes its origins to a Midland Railway 0-6-0 tank designed by Johnson. It became the company's standard 0-6-0 tank engine and eventually 422 were built between 1924 and 1931. So large was the order that much of the work was contracted out. They were highly versatile engines and found themselves let out of the shunting yards pulling freight trains and sometimes passengers as well. Seven spent a period on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway. They were eventually displaced in the mid 1950s with diesel shunters but some survived in service to the last days of steam. Ten have been preserved, being snapped up by preservation societies early on.
