Bachmann BR Insulated Van 38-190A
This is a standard BR insulated van, which was one of two designs developed by BR for the transportation of meat - the other being the ventilated meat van modelled by Dapol in 1985. In hindsight, there was little need for these vehicles as there were adequate suitable containers already available and more had been ordered. However, 250 insulated meat vans and 150 ventilated meat vans were built.
The insulated meat vans were to the same construction as the standard ventilated van but without the end vents. There being little use for them, many ended up in ale traffic and some were used for fish - although, with their short wheelbase, they were unsuitable for the fast Blue Spot fish trains. They were gradually absorbed into general traffic and broken up early on.
As with this model, the 'Insulmeats' were identified by their pale blue livery. This one carries the number 'B872016'.
