Hornby 'Devon Belle' Train Pack R2817DB Devon Belle Train Pack.jpg (52342 bytes)

The 'Devon Belle' service was started by the Southern Railway in June 1947 and introduced Pullman cars west of Basingstoke for the first time on the SR system. The route was from London Waterloo to Ilfracombe, with a through portion to Plymouth - the first six cars went to Ilfrecombe and the last four to Plymouth. At busy times, up to four more cars would be added, mostly for Ilfracombe. For the journey to Exeter Central, the train was usually pulled by a 'Merchant Navy' and beyond Exeter a 'West Country' Class locomotive would take over.

Our train pack, together with the coach pack, sees the train in its last stage to Ilfracombe and the locomotive provided in the pack is unrebuilt 'West Country' 34007 Wadebridge. Also in the pack are 1st class kitchen car Geraldine, 3rd class brake Car No.27, both with matchboard sides, and the Pullman observation car (reviewed below).
