Hornby Achilles Class 4-2-2 Duke of Edinburgh R2828Achilles 4-2-2 Duke of Edinburgh.JPG (43306 bytes)

We have been warned that this is the last of the present run of renamed 'Dean Singles' and while the model appears crude by modern standards, it has been nice to have it released with several new and authentic names. The model was first released by Tri-ang in 1961 and for 46 years was always produced as Lord of the Isles. Your reviewer was one of those who moaned to Hornby about this, pointing out that the Achilles Class was quite extensive with many other attractive names. Then, in 2007 we had 3047 Lorna Doone and in 2008 the model was released as 3050 Royal Sovereign. This year we have been delighted with 3064 Duke of Edinburgh. Thanks Hornby. Who knows, it might come back again as a completely retooled model.
