The Mk1 Pullman cars are very attractive and here we have two more in the Umber and Cream livery.

The first of these is a 1st class parlour (FP) called Amethyst (374-200B) which arrived on the Mid-Hants Line in 2004 for restoration ready for use on the 'Watercress Belle' service. Quite a lot of information and photographs will be found in Coupe News No.42 for August 2006.

The second vehicle is a kitchen 2nd (SK) Car No.334 (374-230B).GF Mk1 Pullman SP .jpg (49297 bytes)

The British Transport Commission had a 30 year rule for the accepted life of coaches and, as the Pullman cars operating under contract on the Eastern Region were built in 1928, by the mid 1950s, orders were placed with Metro-Cammell to build 44 new Pullman vehicles to replace them - none of them brake coaches. They were built to standard Mk1 dimensions but with modifications such as recessed doors, and were formed into four trains on the Eastern Region. The displaced cars, however, were not scrapped but were passed to the Southern Region.
