Graham Farish 'Conflat A' Wagons and
Containers
We had the opportunity to examine these delightful wagons at the trade open days in the
summer and know they will be a big hit. The 'Conflat A' wagon is new to the range this
year and six versions, all with container loads, have been released and are on their way.
Three of them are reviewed here. The wagons are all in BR brown livery and individually
numbered.
B505569 (377-325) has a BD 'Speedfreight' container numbered 'BD 46491B'. The London
Midland Region Speedfreight service was the forerunner of the Freightliner services in
that it pioneered the transportation of containers without securing chains.
B740503 (377-341) has two AFP 'Birds Eye' containers numbered 'AFP66348B' and
'AFP66358B'. The AFP container was designed in 1958 to carry quick-frozen food on pallets
from East Anglia to the markets in London. They were normally carried on 'Conflat B'
wagons designed specifically for them.
B709437 (377-326) has an AF container numbered 'AF16392B'. The container is light blue and carries the British Railways 'Door to Door' symbol on its sides. BR 'Ice Blue' livery, for frozen goods, was used from 1964.
