1E Promotionals 7-plank Wagons
These two wagons are the August release by 1E Promotionals but they were received late from Dapol. The first (WD6) is in the livery of Theodore Ransome and Ransome's Lime Works were situated between Hitchin and Three Counties stations on the Great Northern Railway in Hertfordshire.
Six wagons were built to order of the British Wagon in May 1904 and
it is the final one of the batch on which the model is based. They were registered by the
GNR and were numbered 3-18. Construction was to be as per the wagons built for Franklin of
Bedford. The livery was what might be termed 'standard' for lime trucks. The basic body
colour was deep stone colour and the letters were black shaded vermilion. 'Stone' meant
the colour of the sandstone (rather than chalk or obsidian) which implies a shade of light
brown rather than light grey. Additionally, some of the ironwork is black
Whitstable Shipping Co. (RM7) was a consumer of coal but it is likely that this wagon was used for other things including the transfer of boxes of fish as the writing on its sides indicates that, empty, it is to be returned to Queenborough Pier. The model is in black and numbered '21'.
