Hornby Devon Flyer Train Set R1121R1121 Devon Flyer set 2 - PEH.jpg (41501 bytes)

The 'Devon Flyer' is the new steam outline starter set for 2009 and, no doubt, many will find themselves under the Christmas tree towards the end of the year.

The set contains, as its motive power, the Class 101 ex-GWR 0-4-0 tank engine. This is in a dark blue livery, numbered '2009' and carries the name Blue Diamond on its tanks. There is also minimal white lining. The tank engine pulls three wagons including the very basic standard brake van of 1967. The chassis on this is the one developed for the 1974 LMS brake van which had a working red light at the rear and plastic moulding still carries the marks where the pick-ups were fitted. The other two vehicles in the set are open wagons. The smaller of the two is the Tri-ang Hornby 7-plank wagon of 1981 which is the same as R9234 in the Thomas series but with a bright blue body (i.e. it has black steelwork but no other markings). The other open wagon is the long 8-plank wagon released in 2002 for the Thomas series and mounted on the same brake van chassis described above. This wagon is red with printing in white. It is for the Highley Mining Company and numbered 425. There is a circle of 3rd radius curved track and two straight rails, one of which has a power connection point. There are a C990 wall plug transformer and an R8250 standard controller included in the set.
