Hornby Princess Class Princess
Elizabeth R2823
The Hornby model of the LMS Princess Royal Class locomotive has a very long history.
The first version was released in 1950 by Rovex Plastics Ltd and became the Tri-ang
Railways model which was made until 1974. The next version, now of scale length, arrived
in 1984 and was made until 1998. The current model was released in 2001 and is a
super-detailed model which has been through several versions - this current one being the
twelfth.
It is the first subject in a new series aimed at raising public awareness of railway modelling as an adult occupation. The idea is to link the Hornby range of exquisite models with a well known personality who is, himself, a keen modeller. Record producer and television personality, Pete Waterman, agreed to provide that link. He was asked to select three of his favourite locomotives that Hornby could produce from their current range and Princess Elizabeth was one of those that he chose. This has, therefore, been produced in BR Brunswick green with early decals on the tender and is sold in packaging which carries a specially designed 'The Pete Waterman Collection' logo which incorporates a portrait of him. The box also carries a brief history of the real locomotive.
