Hornby GWR Parcels Diesel Railcar R2876H AEC Railcar GW Express Parcels.JPG (40367 bytes)

In 1980, Lima released their model of a Great Western Railway AEC diesel railcar and, two years later, they followed this with the express parcels version, based on a solitary vehicle, numbered 34, which was built at Swindon in 1941.

Using the Lima tooling, Hornby produced their first versions of the passenger carrying railcar in 2006 and the first of the parcels version in 2008. The latter was in BR crimson and cream and now we have the same car (No.34) in GWR chocolate and cream livery. Hornby have carried out a number of improvements to the model which include a better motor, new wheels and smaller couplings. The paint finish and printing are also finer on the Hornby models than the Lima versions.
