Hornby 9-Plank Wagons
Here we have another former Airfix wagon which has seen far more variations produced by Hornby than the combined production of Airfix, Palitoy and Dapol who all had the tooling pass through their hands. The model, which dates from 1981, was based on the first coal wagons built by the LNER around 1928. They had a 20 ton capacity and were constructed in wood. They were built with end and bottom doors and with twin drop-down doors in each side. The two review models show these during the British Railways era and are both in grey livery. Even in LNER days, some of these were used to supply coal to the locomotive yard and these were marked 'Loco'. Our loco coal version (R6401A) is numbered 'E157943' while the other one (R6108G) carries the number 'E30911'.
