Hornby 4-plank Wagon R6440H 4plk Bold Venture Lime 24.JPG (28751 bytes)

Along with the 3-plank and 6-plank short wheelbase wagons, the 4-plank wagon was added to the Hornby range in 1995. They were amongst the first models Hornby designed using Computer Aided Design (CAD) equipment. Unlike previous open wagons, which were usually based on the later 10 foot wheelbase, these represented earlier 9 foot examples and, as such, were more suitable for private owner liveries. The following year, the 4-plank was released in the light grey livery of The Bold Venture Lime Co. Ltd and numbered '24'. This same livery (and number) appear on Hornby's latest 4-plank release.

While probably the livery on both occasions was copied from the same picture, there are differences between the two finishes. The most obvious is that the new version has the solebars painted to match the rest of the wagon, while on the earlier version these were left black. The other prominent difference is that the interior of the new one is painted brown whilst on the early version it was grey. Smaller differences include the lighter shade of grey used this time and thinner lettering. The new one also has metal wheel sets and 'Made in China' on the underside.
