Graham Farish BR Crab 2-6-0 372-227
The Graham Farish N gauge 'Crab' dates from 1993 and four versions of it were made before Bachmann took-over the company's assets. Three more versions have been released since then and this is the latest of them. It is in BR black with early decals on the tender and carries the number '42765'.
The 2-6-0 'Crab' was the first truly new design to appear on the LMS after its formation. It had been designed at Horwich by former L&Y chief draughtsman J.R.Billington, using an incompatible design that the Caledonian Railway had on their drawing board. This gave them the name 'Horwich Moguls', although they are better known today as 'Crabs' due to their appearance. They arrived in 1926, by which time they had certain Fowler features including the Fowler tender. They were large boiler powerful engines used for both passenger and freight workings. 425 were built and many survived into BR ownership. Most were scrapped in the mid 1960s but at least two survived into 1967 and three have been preserved.
