Bachmann 20T Brake Van 37-537A
The standard BR brake van was largely based on the LNER design with a small body centrally placed on a long four-wheel chassis. Attempts had been made during the war to standardise brake van design and the Southern were the first to adopt them, building theirs at Ashford. Both vacuum-fitted and unfitted versions were produced and many of the unfitted ones were later converted.
The origins of the current Bachmann model can be traced back to the Mainline Railways one of 1976. The first Bachmann version appeared in 1991 and this was replaced by a Blue Riband model in 2001. A plywood body version followed in 2002.
The model under review is in BR bauxite brown livery and numbered 'B953810'.
