Bachmann Jubilee 45587 Baroda 31-186Jubilee BRc Baroda.jpg (45587 bytes)

The 'Jubilees' are one of the more popular former LMS locomotives and Bachmann's model, released in 2007, replaced the earlier split chassis model that was originally developed for Palitoy's Mainline Railways system. The original model ran to 17 Bachmann versions before it was dropped from the catalogue and, so far, Bachmann are already committed to 9 versions of this new model.

45587 Baroda is in BR green with late decals and, for the first time, has a Fowler tender with coal rails. The real locomotive was built in December 1934 and, like the early examples, it took a British Empire name. However, it was a strange choice as, unlike the other names allocated to members of the class, Baroda was neither a country nor a state but an area in North West India.

The real locomotives date from 1933 and were to be an updated 'Patriot', but were initially a disappointment. Modifications brought some improvements. Early ones had Fowler tenders, like our model, but later they were given Stanier 4,000 gallon version. The final count was a class of 191 locomotives and, as such, it was the most numerous class of six-coupled express locomotives on the LMSR. They were seen on the St Pancras-Leeds and Bristol-York lines and did sterling service on the Settle-Carlisle until the end of steam.
