Bachmann introduced their model in 2006 and based it on the two Fairburn tanks in preservation on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria. The model carries the number '42691' and small early BR decals on the tank sides. It comes with couplings fitted front and rear and the only detail left to the purchaser to fit (depending on track tolerances) are cylinder drain cocks and bufferbeam hoses.

Fairburn's time as Chief Mechanical Engineer with the LMS was very short - he took over from Stanier but died in 1945. His one main achievement, bearing in mind the wartime restrictions, was this lighter version of Stanier's 2-6-4 tank engine which went into production, initially at Derby, in 1945. They were built over a six year period and created a class of 277 members. 41 were built at Brighton for the Southern Region. They did suburban passenger work in many parts of Britain but were gradually unseated by the arrival of DMUs. Scrapping took place between 1961 and 1967. The L&HR pair are the only survivors.
