Bachmann 29T VDA 38-140
The VAA, VBA and VDA air-braked vans were modelled and released by Bachmann in 2007. Large quantities of these vans were made for the railways during the 1970s as part of a process to modernise the freight carrying part of the industry. After experimenting with various types of doors, BR settled for the VDA which became the standard design. The one our model is based on, No.210380, was built in either 1977 or 1978. Some of the vans were allocated to Rowntrees at York for the transport of chocolate and these had their roofs painted white to help keep the internal temperature down.
Our model of 210380 is in the red and grey livery which was introduced to Railfreight vehicles during the early 1980s.
