Graham Farish Class 220 Virgin Trains 371-675Class 220 Virgin 2.JPG (44918 bytes)

The Virgin Trains 'Voyagers' have an iconic presence on the railways and particularly on the Virgin Cross Country route for which they were principally built to replace loco hauled trains.

Over the years, model makers have struggled with reproducing in miniature the complex curves produced on streamlined locomotives such as the LNER A4s and the LMS 'Coronations'. This same problem applies to a certain extent with the 'Voyagers' but Bachmann seem to have got it right first time. The four models that make up the train are well detailed with separate parts for roof detail, air tanks, gangway mouldings, etc.. The tinted glazing is flush and the livery and lettering detail accurately applied. Despite the dark windows, the cars are fully fitted out internally.Class 220 Virgin 3.JPG (35810 bytes)

The motor is contained within a split frame chassis and is 'DCC ready' with a 6-pin socket. The running is smooth with bags of power and there are working directional and top cab marker lights.

Our sample is '220001 Maiden Voyager' and, of course, is in Virgin Trains silver and red livery.
