Hornby 'Tope' Hopper WagonTope Dutch Livery.jpg (46145 bytes)

This is another entirely new wagon which shares a common chassis with the 'Rudd' and 'Clam'. It is in Departmental grey+yellow livery and comes either as solo model in pristine condition as R6419 numbered DB970297 or in a set of three 'weathered' versions as R6420. The three lightly weathered wagons are numbered DB970294, DB970295 and DB970296. The extensive handrails at each end are in wire and the interior of the hopper shows riveting.

The couplings on the 'Tope', Clam' and 'Rudd' are of the NEM type but the pocket is on a wire spring which allows the whole coupling to move left or right but return to centre of its own accord.

Tope 3x.jpg (33923 bytes)The 'Tope' is a 22T ballast hopper which was converted from a 21T hopper coal wagon. The principal difference is in the height of the hopper and the removal of the bottom discharge mechanism. In the period 1989 to 1991, RFS Doncaster and Powell Duffryn, between them, converted about 7,000 of these wagons.
